The Wordies Project

This very special project came about as part of the healing process after the passing of my dear Mother. I have always had a love for typography and the written word so it seemed a good time to express myself.  The initial project consists of 26 “Wordies”, one for each letter of the alphabet.  Knit in a slightly openwork pattern of up to 10 different fibers, this elongated scarf is embellished with pieces of fabric or buttons and jewelry that belonged to my Mom. Her memory lives on.

To document this project, over 40 friends and family members, many of whom knew my mom, generously agreed to model one or more scarves  for the camera. Each model was then asked to write a short statement about why they picked that word and what it meant to them. The photo session itself became a celebration of Mom. Full of laughter, tears and fond memories, everyone who participated made it their own personal experience.
